Nestled on Bermondsey Street, Sentosa offers customers a culinary journey through Singapore and Malaysia. Founded by Ivan Lee, a restauranteur with deep roots in both countries, Sentosa is dedicated to introducing Londoners to the rich and authentic flavours of the Malay Peninsula.
Ivan Lee’s story begins in the bustling markets of Malaysia, where he spent his childhood surrounded by the aromas of chili, coconut and lemongrass. At 18, he moved to Sentosa, an island off the southern coast of Singapore. He remembers these times as some of the happiest in his life, forming a deep bond with the island.
Upon moving to London around 20 years ago, Lee found it difficult to find the same authentic flavours he was used to from back home. Noticing this gap in the market he decided to fill it and opened Sentosa in the summer of 2023.
The restaurant benefits from seven talented chefs, who collectively bring nearly 40 years of culinary experience. Hailing from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, they infuse their rich heritage and skills into every dish they prepare. The restaurant’s ingredients and herbs are imported directly from Singapore to London providing the chefs with the quality products they need to create Sentosa’s menu.
Today, Sentosa is a warm and friendly restaurant, serving authentic food and is dedicated to ensuring customers enjoy every visit. Whether it’s the sweet and savory Singapore chili crab served with soft, steamed buns for mopping up the dark red sauce, or the perfectly balanced Malaysia Boleh Nasi Lemak, where fluffy coconut rice pairs perfectly with chili squid. Sentosa offers these dishes and so much more.
